To celebrate May – Sexual Violence Prevention Month – we teamed up with the cool folks at Broad Conversations for their May event.
When: Tuesday, May 23rd, 7:30pm-9:00pm
Where: 541 Eatery & Exchange – 541 Barton Street East, Hamilton ON
Who: This gathering is for women-identified, gender fluid and gender non-conforming folks only, please. Children are enthusiastically welcome to attend.
On November 5th 2016, the we organized the 3rd annual Hamilton Feminist Zine Fair. We asked folks who attended, tabled, organized, and volunteered at the fair to contribute their words, drawings, and collages to our collective zine to give messages of support to survivors. This zine is a collection of ideas, hopes, images, and stories that show up, and spread love and support, for all survivors. We’re excited to be launching ‘Messages of Support for Survivors’ at Broad Conversations.
Broad Conversations are gatherings in Hamilton, Ontario for feminist broads. Gatherings are structured to inspire new ideas and reflections on important themes within a feminist context.
The theme for this very special Broad Convos 2 x HFZF Launch is “participation” – how do we define, value, and manage participation as feminists, as women, as citizens?
1. Conversation starters: three speakers – an academic, a practitioner, and an activist – have 15 minutes apiece to share their perspective and reflections on a central theme.
Chris Sinding – McMaster School of Social Work
Pearl Mendonça – Holistic Health practitioner
Marisa Rodrigues – Zine Creator
2. Guided conversation: attendees respond to prompts to further discuss the speakers and the theme.
3. Open mingling: speakers and attendees can continue conversing — for as long as the venue stays open!
The venue is accessible including washrooms.
May is #SexualViolencePreventionMonth.
