Many survivors feel like they should’ve somehow done more to stop the abuse. You did everything right to survive to today. Freezing is a common response to crisis. It’s important to know that you didn’t choose to freeze. Your brain choose for you to protect you.

While many survivors of trauma feel a tremendous amount of shame and guilt because they “froze” or “didn’t fight back,” it is crucial to remember that these physical responses are “instantaneous” and “instinctive” natural bodily responses to an outside threat.
