Standard

May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

SACHA will be offering two workshops — Supporting Survivors for community members and Listening to Disclosures for helping professionals.

Supporting Survivors - May 6, 2014Supporting Survivors – A Workshop for Community Members

Nobody expects to be raped but one in three women will experience sexual assault.

It is important that as friends and family members we know how to respond to friends who have experienced violence.

These are skills that we learn hoping that we will never have to use them.

When: May 6th from 6-9pm

Where: YWCA Green Room – 75 MacNab Street South, Hamilton ON

Who: All community members who are interested in learning new skills.

Cost: ABSOLUTELY FREE. Donations to SACHA are welcome.

RSVP: Online at Brown Paper Tickets or by phone – 905.525.4573. Space is limited!

Listening to Disclosures - May 27, 2014Listening to Disclosures – A Workshop for Helping Professionals

One in three Canadian women will experience sexual assault in their lifetime.

Most survivors of sexual violence never tell a professional about the abuse. It is important that as service providers we know how to respond.

Participants in this workshop will learn:
– The myths that exist about rape, abuse, incest and sexual assault.
– Canadian sexual assault laws.
– Non-judgmental ways to respond to disclosures of violence.
– What survivors look for in a support person.
– Resources for survivors in the Hamilton community.

When: May 27th from 1-5pm

Where: Good Shepherd Family Centre – 143 Wentworth Street South, Hamilton ON

Cost: $25

RSVP: Online at Brown Paper Tickets or by phone – 905.525.4573. Space is limited!
